Sony Unveils Playstation 4, ‘Slapping Face’ of Microsoft

Japanese technology giants Sony have unveiled the fourth instalment of the hugely admired Playstation series.

The games device, that was officially exposed at this year’s E3 Trade show in Los Angeles, California, has been vehemently anticipated.

Though several of the console’s textures and upgrades were announced in February, Sony had kept prospective consumers guessing on some essential details, including the overall design of the PS4.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCE, said that the PS4 represents, in some ways, a very new Playstation.

Maybe the news that has most people discussing could be the declaration the PS4 will critically dent its close rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One, on cost. Mr. House unveiled that the PS4 could be sold at US $399 (£349) upon release, whilst, at the identical show, Microsoft had previously revealed that the Xbox One will cost US $499 (£429).

Another vital declaration came when it is revealed that Sony would not be introducing any limitations on second hand games. In fact, the Playstation 4 won’t even need gamers to regularly verify their machines via the Net so as to continue play.

Conversely, Microsoft has added more limitations regarding who a player can purchase second-hand titles from. The corporation has even gone so far as to need Xbox One gamers to connect to the net once every day so they can use their console.

In response to Sony, there are around one hundred forty PS4 video games currently in development, with 100 roughly expected to go on sale within the Playstation 4′s 1st year of issue. Trade insiders have speculated that Sony are attempting to reach out to independent developers, mainly those who feel muted by Microsoft.

Drawing an enormous cheer from the audience, Jack Tretton, boss of SEA said, “PS4 won’t impose any new restrictions on your use of Playstation 4 game discs,”

BBC correspondent Dave Lee reported that, “If console battles were decided through the frequency and volume of whoops and cheers from highly strung gaming fanatics, then Sony has won it hands down”.

The current Sony console, the PS3, outsold Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by a good margin, but was consequently outsold by Nintendo’s Wii. It’s thought that Sony are attempting to rectify this with the release of the PS4.

Sony’s announcement has been seen by some as a calculated strike against Microsoft, with IGN.com’s UK Editor-in-Chief Alex Simmons describing it as a extremely public slap across Microsoft’s face.

Sony declined to offer a release date for the new console, but strongly hinted the PS4 ought to arrive around Christmas.
